Great Eye, Ear, Hair Protection. Works for Photography Hobby!
Post cataract surgery, the sun is glaringly bright for me. I'm an avid hobbyist photographer and it's not possible to wear sunglasses and see what's happening in the camera. This hat has a wide enough brim to block unwanted ambient light from my eyes and also help prevent another bout of facial skin cancer.
I like the relatively soft brim (it's not floppy but it's not hard either like some cape style hats). I need the softer brim for when I rotate my camera vertically to shoot. This brim just moves out of the way as needed. And, it doesn't knock the hat off my head or shift the hat to the back of my head. The brim just "gives"; which is a good thing!
I'm also in an age range that my haircolor is (shall we.say..) enhanced to resemble younger times. The cape helps prevent the pricey tints from fading as quickly by covering my hair. And I don't have to wear a bright orange construction worker neck shield. So the aesthetics are terrific too.
I've had several more conventional Tilley hats and loved their quality. The one thing I miss from those other hats on this cape hat was the pocket underneath the inside top of the hat in which I can put a personal card with my contact information.
