I've been wearing Tilley LTM6/5 hats for many years and have found them to be a great deal since they are so well-made and the fit has never failed me. I had a 4-year-old LTM6 hat brim lose its shape and Tilley replaced under their lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, they didn't have the same color (natural green-to me its yellow) in any of their inventory, so I had to choose another color or hat. Since I have several LTM6's in other colors, I selected an LTM2 since it offers an even wider brim.
The hat arrived a few days later and the first thing I noticed is the brim is really wider than the LTM6, which made me very happy since I have very fair skin and need the extra sun protection. The second thing I noticed is the hat crown is not the same shape as the other hats I've owned, it's rounder and doesn't fit my head like the more oval shape I've been wearing. Therefore, it doesn't feel as secure on my head as the LTM5 or 6. There was no mention on the website that the crown shape was different or even mention of its shape.
If this hat had the same shape, this review would be 5 stars, but for me, it only gets 4 stars. I will be calling Tilley to find out if the one I got is supposed to be round, and if so, I can only hope it conforms to my head over time.
This is comfortable to wear in the sunny weather. It was a sunny hot summer and this hat did the job. It's comfortable to wear. The only complaint I have is that the hat is hard to wear when you are driving. It's so comfortable I keep forgetting it doesn't work so well with the wide brim when you drive! So I often knock it off when I first sit on the seat!
It has become my go to hat on the summer. I think I'm just going to Get a smaller brim one for winter when I drive more! Love these hats!
Just lost my 13 year old daily work wear hat today in traffic and couldn't retrieve it, 😔. I work in the field and am frequently in extreme heat for 12+ hours per day. This hat had 100's of washings over its life and stood up to it all, it was even run over by an excavator once and survived. I'm here to buy a new one. Wouldn't wear anything else.
I love my old shorter brim Airflo, which I got a decade ago, but it doesn't give me enough sun protection for at the football stadium in Hamilton (the Donut Box doesn't have a roof and my seat face South Westernly so tons of direct sun.) I got a few burns last year so I invested min this one and have worn it to 2 games now under direct sunlight and it gave me great shade. I also use it when mowing the lawn and fishing on the water. In all scenarios this is a much better hat than the OR Goretex hat I bought earlier this spring. Where the latter is a sweat box and flimsy in the wind, this Tilley LTM2 Airflo Wide Sun Hat stays in place and absorbes any sweat. I love it.
